Lest We Forget – The Royal British Legion

A commemoration show marking the 100th Anniversary of The Great War. Join us for an afternoon of nostalgia and sing along. Also includes a service of remembrance. Today's show is also a dedication/memorial to the late John Crisford CBE.

We look forward to performing for you today together with Hunstanton’s very own Dads’ Army who will be asking you to join them in a singalong accompanied by Rock Choir’s musical director, Mike Tandy on the piano.

The Royal British Legion Band & Corps of Drums Romford was formed in 1952 by the late Peter Richardson BEM and is one of the longest running independent youth bands in the UK today.

The band is the most successful traditional youth marching band on the contest field in the United Kingdom today boasting 11 World titles From The World Music Championships held in Kerkrade Holland, the Olympics of bands, plus numerous UK titles.

Although called the Royal British Legion Band & Corps of Drums Romford, the band is totally independent and self-funded. The band carries the name of the RBL and promotes it with pride wherever they perform.

Appearances over the years have included the Edinburgh Tattoo, Royal Tournament, Wembley Military Pageant, Berlin Tattoo, Sweden International Tattoo and The Queen’s Birthday parade in London to name a few as well as performing concerts and parades for various organisations all over Europe including Europe day in Romania and a trip to America where they performed at the 2004 Rochester International Marine Tattoo in New York State. This year the Band had the honour to perform at the Guards Polo Club Great Windsor Park for the Cartier Queens Cup Final in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen.

The band have also appeared in many UK TV shows with the latest being on one of the world’s most iconic theatre stages The London Palladium for a show entitled Tonight at The London Palladium alongside Cyndy Lauper, Ronan Keating, Peter Andre plus many others.

The youngest member is aged nine with an average age of 17yrs. The Band Director is Ian Yeoman who was awarded the British Empire Medal by Her Majesty the Queen in 2014 for his services to youth and music. Ian is assisted by Musical Directors Mark Whiteman and W01 Esther Hayes (British Army).

The Band is led by Drum Major Jordan Dejoodt aged 17.
